Soccer star Rio Ferdinand has hired a private jet to fly 100 family and friends to his Caribbean wedding.
When guests received their invites – designed to look like passports – they were not told where the England and Man Utd star, 30, and fiancée Rebecca Ellison, 29, plan to wed on Saturday.
But we can reveal the couple have opted to be married in the Caribbean – and have spent tens of thousands of pounds getting everyone there.
The wedding guests will be collected from their homes on Tuesday morning in a fleet of chauffeur-driven cars.
They will then be driven to Gatwick Airport, where Rio has spent £200,000 on a luxurious “VIP-configured” private jet to fly everyone to the isle.
He will then be picking up the tab for his guests’ week-long stay at a fivestar beachside resort.
All the guests will then be flown home on the private jet while the footballer and Rebecca enjoy their honeymoon. A friend of the couple said: “Rio has picked the most luxurious and romantic venue imaginable and no expense is being spared.”
Unlike most footballer weddings, the majority of guests will be family and old pals rather than fellow soccer stars and WAGS.
The most high-profile guests will be Rio’s soccer-star brother Anton, 24, ex-Chelsea player Jody Morris, 30, and ex-Leeds defender Michael Duberry, 33.
Rio and Rebecca have been dating for seven years and have two young sons, Lorenz and Tate.
